A Celebration Of Life: Oscar Jerome Green

Oscar Jerome Green, 69, president of Shorter College in North Little Rock, Arkansas,

and resident of Sherwood, AR passed away on April 7, 2024. Originally from Pell City,

Alabama, Green moved to Arkansas in 1978. He became an attorney and opened a law

practice in the 1990’s. He worked with President Bill Clinton’s administration and the

Arkansas Ethics Commission in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. President Green was also

an ordained elder in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church as well as a

member of the AME church’s Judicial Council (similar to the U.S. Supreme Court).

President Green pastored several churches in both Alabama and Arkansas, most

recently Connor Chapel AME Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. Green began serving as

the 45 th president of Shorter College in 2012. Under President Green’s leadership,

Shorter College had record-breaking enrollment and graduates, new academic

programs, and the establishment of the STEM Center for Academic Excellence. He is

survived by his wife, Dr. Linda Ann Haynie Green; children, Jermicha Fomby, Dr. Linda

Nicole Green Harvey, Conrad Jerome Green, and their spouses; grandchildren,

siblings-in-law, nephews, a niece, and other relatives.

Visitation Services will be held Friday, April 19, 2024, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at

Connors Chapel AME Church, 2100 Main Street, Little Rock, AR 72206. The funeral

service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 10:00 am at Henry Allen Belin Health

Flex (Shorter College Gymnasium), 604 North Locust Street, North Little Rock, AR

72114. Also, the service can be viewed via Shorter College’s YouTube page. The

services are entrusted to the Willis Funeral Home, 101 Park Street, McGehee, AR

 71654.

Arkansas 72124.  Funds will be used for The President O. Jerome Green Scholarship

Fund at Shorter College.

Jerome was simply the best: despite being smart, handsome, honest, and gifted, he was also joyful, funny, kind and humble. His is a roadmap of how to do life. To know him was to be inspired. What a legacy. “What manner of man is this?”
